Background

The Sherpas have their own language, script and have their own culture and tradition. By nature Sherpas are hard working, honest, co-operating, soft spoken, openhearted and rather pertinacious and a little eccentric. They are very good at merry-making and expressing their weal and woes in a poetic way. The Sherpa music and dancing are very meaningful, sweat and heart enchanting, romantic and moving. A notable feature of the Sherpa is their strong faith in Buddism, without despising others religion, but with a prick of conscience at animal sacrifice. According to the anthropologist, the word Sherpa is Shyar + Pa which mean "men living in the east". Likewise according to the Sherpa script "Shyar" means east and "+Pa" means living person consequently means 'the men in the east' as well. The Sherpas have , in fact, their owns ancestral lineage's and surnames on the ground of which their marriage has to happen outside the same lineage. In the racial classification of the whole mankind, the Sherpa belong to the Mongolian race. The Sherpas are from Himalayan region so they have unique relation with Mountains. After Nepal became open to tourists many foreign trekkers and expedition groups have begun to come to Nepal because of its attraction of the grand mountains of "the Himalayan snow line". The only famous people who render their practical help to these trekkers and expedition group are the Sherpas. By helping the tourist and trekkers they have not only rendered their service to foreign tourists and trekkers, but also contributed to the Govt. of Nepal and Business organizations by their help to earn foreign currencies.

Furthermore the Sherpa as they are famous climbers of the Himalayas without any modern training, play an important role in augmenting Nepal 's prestige in the world. Inspire of all this, the Sherpas have mot been accoreingly prosperous. Through most of the Sherpas are still exploited, oppressed and uneducated, now a little education consciousness has dawn upon them.
